Last Saturday, 10th Feb, we welcomed The Slade bowls club from Buckingham. They were the first team of the season we visited. A game in which threw up some rather unusual scores on their club’s four rinks.

After Caroline (their captain) and I sorted the cards out, old friends had caught up and chatted over a cup of tea, the game commenced on time.

Strangely, we all seemed to struggle to find the line or weight, but Slade settled sooner than Banbury Cross and the chase began. We were behind on all rinks for over half of the match, but we kept clawing away slowly but surely until the end.

The result being 82/95 in favour of Slade. Ian and I managed to scrape through with a few points to save a little face. But all in all, it was a very good competitive and fun match.

Well done to the new bowlers Helen and Graham, to the friendly competition scene who put up a good show of themselves.

A special thankyou to Julia after a busy bowling holiday (with Banbury Cross, Adderbury and Oxfords City and County to Weymouth), and came in to the hub to deliver the biscuits and serve the thirsty and peckish visitors.

This coming weekend Sunday 18th at 2.00 pm. we have Oxford Fire and Rescue visiting us for our only game with them this season. I expect another competitive game with some of our own club members that normally play for them. This is always a good, fun afternoon with banter abounding and laughter in loads.

We have comfortable seating, and the hub will be open to provide refreshments to any visitors who may wish to come and watch.

See you there!

Tony Smith

Captain
